M-Net is snuffing out the torch of South African Survivor superfans, telling News24 that the pay-TV channel currently has no plans for more seasons of Survivor South Africa.
The ninth and latest Survivor SA: Return of the Outcasts, made its debut exactly a year ago on 18 July 2022 on M-Net (DStv 101), with the airing of daily episodes in which returning outcast Dino Paulo emerged as the winner.
The season, produced by Afrokaans following the Banijay format and set in the Eastern Cape with Nico Panagio as host, was negatively affected by various factors.
Survivor SA's last season suffered as linear TV ratings dropped to 43% with its debut, coupled with a disastrous move to a much earlier timeslot of 18:00, as well as the stacking of four episodes per week, which made it difficult for DStv subscribers to keep up as viewer fatigue and a lack of time to discuss episodes set in.
After a year's absence with no call to entry, Survivor SA fans have been chomping at the bit to enter for a 10th season and have been wondering why M-Net is remaining silent on when it will do another season.
