Oct. 29, 2021 A federal judge in St. Paul is prohibiting police from threatening to arrest or physically harm journalists who are covering civil unrest.
Several reporters sued law enforcement after they were injured by projectiles during riots and protests in 2020 and earlier this year.
Judge Wilhelmina Wright also ruled Thursday that reporters are not required to comply with dispersal orders such as those given during the unrest that followed the police killings of George Floyd and Daunte Wright.
The order specifies that the Minnesota State Patrol and other law enforcement agencies may not spray journalists with chemical irritants or seize their equipment. Subscribe to our Minnesota Today podcast to get up-to-date Minnesota news twice daily. — MPR News Staff |
