Thousands of vaccinations have been administered across the city
View email online | | | | | Apr 30, 2021 | | | | | | Good evening - thank goodness it's Friday! Not just just that but it’s the first bank holiday weekend we have all been properly allowed out post-lockdown and many adults over 40 have had their first jab. But how safe are those who are between the two jabs? Scientists say in a new report there is good evidence from early real-world data in the UK that Covid-19 vaccines are working after the first dose. Source: Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage). But don’t get carried away (there’s always a but), they say coronavirus jabs may fail to prevent hospital admissions amongst a very small number of people, particularly those who are frail and elderly. In fact, three weeks is the point at which experts believe maximum immunity from a single dose becomes apparent. The conclusions are somewhat complicated because their test group will also have been less exposed to Covid recently due to lockdowns and social distancing - nothing is ever simple. But at least we are making progress so we have leave to enjoy our bank holiday weekend - so have fun but take care. As always thank you for reading.
