Get a painted cookie kit. Only $15.99.The kit has a sugar cookie mix, color gels, brushes, and meringue powder. Meringue powder gives the frosting a hard shell, makes it much more durable. Gels make a much better "paint" than do the liquids in the stores.
You'll need to make your own frosting but a simple water based powdered sugar frosting will do.
