The Sunday Round-Up | January 2, 2022 Happy New Year! Bad weather and omicron continue to wreak havoc for airlines and travelers. In fact, so far today, the airlines have cancelled more than 2,413 flights and delayed over 4,700 that are traveling to, from or within the USA and it's only 12:15pm PT.
Northeast Winter Weather Tomorrow/Tuesday And if you're traveling to, from or through the Northeast tomorrow or Tuesday, then be aware that some airlines like United and Air Canada are already offering waivers since a storm is heading that way. Scroll down to see today's Travel tweet for more.
Alaska Airlines Told My Friend He Would Be Stuck For 6 Days My best friend from college called me last night from LAX because his connecting flight to Anchorage was canceled and Alaska Airlines said they can't get him back home until --- get this --- January 8! He said people were (understandably) irate, including one passenger who demanded to be flown back to Mexico where it's nice and warm. My friend thinks Alaska Airlines obliged.
What to Do: Weather Delays and Flight Cancellations Here's what to do if your flight is delayed or canceled.
We Postponed Our Trip to Hawaii We were supposed to be going to Hawaii next week but we just postponed our trip since it seems everyone is sick. Over a dozen of my friends are ill. We want to wait until the spike goes down.
Two Thumbs Up For United United Airlines made changing our flights super easy as it took less than two minutes and just a few clicks. Hawaiian Airlines, not so much because I purchased extra legroom seats and their website doesn't recognize the total fare so I needed to contact them. The wait time was over two hours but I was able to get it done using their text messaging service. I did have to pay $11 extra per person as the price went up. That's how cheap I bought them for.
Hawaii $199 Round-Trip Right now, American, Delta, Hawaiian and United have roundtrip deals $199 between the west coast and Hawaii for travel between now and March. Here's a link to Google Flights.
