Heavy rain on the way. Tropical Storm Cristobal is bringing clouds, heavy rain and cooler temperatures to Minnesota. Rainfalls of up to 4 inches are expected in southeastern Minnesota by Wednesday morning, with flash flood watches in effect for south-central, southeastern and much of east-central Minnesota. Highs tomorrow will be in the lower 60s to the lower 70s.
Tomorrow is the first day eateries can resume indoor dine-in, gyms reopen. The next phase of Gov. Tim Walz’s “stay safe” plan kicks in as the state sees relatively stabilizing numbers of hospitalized cases and Minnesotans in intensive care due to COVID-19. On Tuesday, state health officials reported 28,523 (307 new) confirmed cases, 1,217 (20 new) deaths, 455 patients currently hospitalized and 199 people in ICU. With many indoor businesses reopening this week across Minnesota, cities like Minneapolis and St. Paul require people to wear masks in public places. Duluth, however, takes a different approach -- trying to normalize the habit. For example, the city has partnered with the school district and other community organizations to challenge kids to design masks they’d like to wear.
