Pro-European majority needs to put
competitiveness front and centre

The business community congratulates the new Members of the European Parliament on their election. Now is the moment to steer the European ship back on course.
"We urge the main political forces to organise the pro-European majority in the European Parliament to take the necessary action to improve competitiveness and agree upon the future EU leaders as soon as possible", our President Fredrik Persson said. He added that economic ambition, political stability and predictability are key for the EU’s economic growth and its attractiveness for investment.
These factors are the prerequisite of the wellbeing of European citizens. "To deliver for society, the EU needs strong companies as much as European companies need a strong European Union to succeed", Persson stated. We stand ready to constructively work with the new institutions to make sure Europe remains the best place to live, work and do business.

Business Advisory Group to support Ukraine

Participating in the inaugural meeting of the Business Advisory Group on 11 June, our Vice-President Maciej Witucki reiterated BusinessEurope’s full commitment to supporting Ukraine's urgent needs and reconstruction efforts. This means ensuring the continuous flow of emergency support and maintaining the operational status of infrastructure and businesses. The meeting took place on the sidelines of Berlin’s Ukraine Recovery Conference. We expect the Business Advisory Group to further encourage business engagement in the reconstruction of Ukraine, provide a platform for discussion and make concrete proposals to support the Ukrainian economy. We welcome the decision to open accession negotiations, a process that is closely linked to the country’s reconstruction efforts.

Quote of the week

"The new Parliament and the new Commission need to send a signal to companies in the first year that it will be worth investing in Europe again. Successful companies and a successful economy are the best remedies for populism."
