Five priorities for a more competitive EU |
The EU needs to deploy all the means it has at hand to make our continent the place to be to invest again, despite the challenging situation, BusinessEurope Director General Markus J. Beyrer highlighted at a panel debate at the European Economic and Social Committee Employers' Group meeting on 14 June. |
He stated that many European companies consider or have already decided to relocate part of their production outside of Europe. “On top of high energy bills, European companies currently have to deal with two additional specific challenges: regulatory inflation and lengthy permitting procedures”, Beyrer explained. |
To change this scenario, the European business community recommends that EU policy-makers: provide regulatory breathing space to all European companies; deepen the Single Market; secure energy supply at competitive prices; address the skills gap; and open more international market opportunities. "In the face of concerning trends, the EU-Mercosur Agreement becomes more important than ever as a strategic, comprehensive, and sustained response." BusinessEurope and the Brazilian National Confederation of Industry (CNI) in a joint statement. |
