A couple of weeks ago when we published this moving piece about aged care the response was overwhelming.

In it Suzan Giuliani writes about how her beautiful Nonna was failed in the system.

In case you missed it, it’s emotional reading and worth taking a look - you just might need some tissues. I know I did.

In addition to people writing in to us with their own experiences off the back of this, there were about 100 comments on the story, many by people with similar stories.

I promise I read every single one of them.

One person summed it up: “It’s heartbreaking to hear of people who led useful lives with families that loved them being treated so much worse than a stray dog.”

We want to keep shining a light on what’s happening in the aged care system – especially with a looming election – so please get in touch with any personal stories or tip offs at health@news.com.au.

Due to the huge interest we’ve had on this topic, Tamara McDonald has this week put together a useful guide on how to navigate aged care for a loved one.

She has spoken to insiders about how to get prepared, what options are available, the costs and which factors need to be considered in choosing where to go.

This week we also have a heartfelt piece from one of our expert columnists - dietitian and healthy body image advocate Lyndi Cohen.

In her first column since we have gone live with our new health section, she shares how she overcame binge-eating disorder and now loves her body.

Have a great week.
