| We spoke with coding educator Tricia A. Twombly to hear what inspired her to become an instructor and the benefits of attending an upcoming Ultimate Training Series class. Here's what she had to say!
Q: Describe your healthcare experience. I am a registered nurse and have been in home care for 31 years. I started as a weekend field nurse and over time, held various positions in the homecare industry. 15 years ago I was asked to direct an outsource coding company and discovered my passion for coding. I have been fortunate to pursue my passion in an industry I truly love.
Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in teaching? Some of the most important people in my life were teachers and consequently, I consider it an enormous responsibility. I’m aware people who sit in my classes may have chosen that particular conference as their only education for the year and I take their trust in me as a teacher very seriously.
Q: What is the most rewarding aspect of teaching on-site education? I like the opportunity of having direct contact with the students. To be able to see if the concept I’m teaching is being understood or if I need to state it in a different way is very satisfying.
Q: Do you have a “philosophy”—spoken or unspoken? My philosophy is always to ‘pay it forward’. I remember being the only coder in an organization and wishing I had someone to ask a coding question. It’s important to me to always pay it forward to those who are learning the art and science of coding.
