Heavy smoke from field burn blamed for fatal crash. So why are fields burned in Louisiana?

By ADAM DAIGLE | Acadiana Business Editor

Good Monday morning, Acadiana. It's unseasonably warm this December morning. Let's get going with your business headlines of the day.

This topic reached a discussion point when an off-duty police officer died in a car crash in Vermilion Parish that attributed to low visibility from heavy smoke emanating from a nearby field burn. It was the third crash that day alone. So why do sugar cane farmers still burn off their fields? The vast majority of them continue to practice field burning. The story indentified why they do it and how people can file a complaint.

You can read the story here.

Have a great day and see you back here Tuesday morning.
