 Dear reader, A damning new study by Harvard scientists estimates that the true death toll from Hurricane Maria, which hit Puerto Rico in September of last year, may be as high as 5,000. Thousands died because they could not access basic medical care during the extended blackout that left millions ruined and without electricity or running water, some for 100 days or more. The study is being buried by the capitalist media because it reveals the shocking and criminal lying and negligence of the US government, which claims an official death toll of 64. It confirms what readers of the WSWS already knew to be true, because three months after the storm we were able to send a reporting team to the island to expose the real conditions facing millions in Puerto Rico.
