Report: Younger B2B buyers want digital over sales calls

Millennial and Generation Z business-to-business buyers increasingly prefer digital sales and marketing interactions as opposed to conventional sales calls, so marketing and demand generation professionals are putting a greater emphasis on online content, according to a survey by Activate Marketing Services. Blogs, infographics and videos were deemed the most effective top-of-funnel strategies, while customer case studies; white papers and e-books; and in-person events worked best at the bottom of the sales funnel.

Shake Shack has been testing the emerging BeReal app primarily with organic real-time behind-the-scenes content such as events, menu tastings and photoshoots as part of an ongoing effort to reach new audiences and "connect with fans in new, creative ways," says Amanda DiAntonio, senior manager of social media. By the end of the year and into the next, a number of companies will be getting in on what is expected to be next hot platform, says Victoria Bachan of Whalar Talent, adding that "early adopters of new platforms can win and in a very organic and meaningful way."

Some homebuilders say they are in good shape to manage the changing market thanks in part to lessons learned during the Great Recession. Homebuilders have chosen to take on less debt in recent years, analysts say, and some are turning to the rental markets to generate revenue.

Although reconstruction after Hurricane Ian will likely lead to a bump in homebuilding costs in Florida, the cooling market for new homes could offset higher prices, experts say. "The headline rate of inflation, which is about 8.5% today, is somewhat lower for building materials," says Bob Hartwig, a professor of finance at the University of South Carolina.
