In November, Elder Project storytellers were accompanied by music and dancers from RawDance.
Dear John, As the Elder Project Director, I can tell you first-hand that hearing this community’s stories and poems has truly been transformational. Elder Project, our community-building writing program in Bay Area senior communities, is a place to share laughter, tears, fears, joys, and all the things that living is made up of: stories. Help more elders, who we all hope to be one day, share their stories.
Family stories set in the Bayview district during the Great Migration. A licensed teacher denied work has to start her own education all over. A Fillmore teenager snuck through the secret roof entrance of Winterland to see James Brown. At the Jewish Home, two people told stories of their grandparents immigrating from eastern Europe in the 19th Century only to realize their families were from the same village and had even taken the same ship to the United States. One senior wrote of playing games near a stream with his first childhood crush, the day before nazis came to his neighborhood, and how he never saw her again. After adding more classes and a new site in 2022, more and more seniors around the Bay are hearing about and asking for the Elder Project. Help us make that expansion reality with a donation today.
For the elders, Kevin Dublin Elder Project Director
