Dear fellow South Carolinians, Thank you for subscribing to my weekly e-newsletter, and please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. HELP Hearing on Facebook Last week, while Mark Zuckerberg was in D.C., I took the opportunity to express my concerns with Facebook seemingly censoring conservative views during our HELP Committee hearing. You can watch my remarks from the hearing here. SESTA I was happy to see President Trump sign the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act (SESTA) into law last Wednesday. Too many innocent lives are affected by these despicable crimes and SESTA will now hold websites that knowingly enable this illegal activity accountable. I was glad to have supported this important legislation in the Senate and look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to stamp out the evils of sex trafficking and human trafficking. You can read more about SESTA here. Syrian Airstrikes The President’s decision to conduct a precision strike in Syria should be a surprise to no one. The horrific images of last week's chemical attack carried out by Bashar al-Assad and his regime called for action and this weekend that's exactly what happened. It was a mission carried out in coordination with some of our closest allies and it sends a clear message that brutal killing of innocent civilians with chemical weapons will not be tolerated. We are so incredibly proud of our military men and women and will continue to ensure they are prepared for all current and future challenges. Sherri Lydon Nomination I was proud to recommend the President nominate Clemson and University of South Carolina alumna, Sherri Lydon, to serve as United States Attorney for the District of South Carolina last week. From establishing her own law firm to serving as a federal prosecutor, Ms. Lydon possesses an incredible amount of experience that will serve our state and our nation well. I hope to see her nomination swiftly confirmed by the Senate. Sincerely, Tim |
