Dear Voornaam,

In our last email, you heard about Sue, and how she survived advanced ovarian cancer due to our life-saving cancer treatment. These treatments are only available due to ground-breaking research.

Our research means that we can detect cancers earlier, providing kinder treatments and improving survival rates, so that women like Sue, can spend more time making memories with their loved ones.

We have taken many great strides in developing effective treatments for ovarian and breast cancers. Since our landmark discovery in 1995, which identified that a faulty BRCA2 gene can increase the risk of developing breast and ovarian cancers, we have developed targeted drugs and new treatment options that are particularly effective in BRCA2 related cancers.

Help us continue with the progress we’ve made in cancer research and support our appeal by funding lifesaving research this Christmas.

Targeted treatments for ovarian cancer

Research from our Centre for Cancer Drug Discovery has helped develop a drug that targets the alpha folate receptor, which shows promising signs for treating some ovarian cancer patients. With new drugs entering trial stage, there will be more ways that we can give women with ovarian cancer hope.

Harnessing the immune system to defeat breast cancer

Dr Arwert (pictured above) has been working on harnessing the body’s immune system to control and destroy the disease. These immunotherapy treatments could benefit thousands of women with breast cancer, including those with faulty BRCA2 genes.

With your support today, we can continue our ground-breaking research to help the 7,500 women that are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and the 55,000 women diagnosed with breast cancer every year. Give the gift of research this Christmas.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.
