Dear

We know that all Canadians continue to deal with the impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic. We have self-isolated in our homes, we are missing our families and our friends and we are anxious to get back to experiences that bring us joy – meeting in person, travel, group celebrations.

While the last year did not unfold as we had originally hoped it was still a fruitful period for the Society. Because of you and your support we were able to provide Canadians with much needed opportunities to connect with our remarkable country and with each other.

In 2020, the Society celebrated the 90th anniversary of Canadian Geographic magazine. In an era where unbiased, comprehensive journalism is at risk of disappearing Canadian Geographic has been unflinching in its goal to offer fact-based coverage of issues of relevance and interest to readers of today. After 90 years Canadian Geographic remains a leader in telling the stories that matter most to Canadians, celebrating our wildlife, the North, parks and the environment.

Last year, Métis Nation—Saskatchewan and the Society launched a pilot project focused on connecting Métis people through their language and culture, empowering Métis educators with virtual language learning resources and celebrating the Michif language and Métis culture.

With the help of Roberta Bondar, RCGS Honorary Vice President, we kicked off the Network for Nature initiative, a 10-year project to grow healthy, biodiverse, green corridors across Canada.

And we entertained, educated and delighted Canadians isolating at home through a rich series of online content offerings including the #OnlineClassroom, the inaugural Fellows Show, Canadian Geographic trivia nights, and multiple Can Geo Talks featuring such intrepid explorers, artists and thought leaders as RCGS Honorary Vice President Wade Davis, CSA astronaut Jeremy Hansen, and globally-renown author Margaret MacMillan.

But there is still much more work we can do together. If you make a new monthly pledge to the Society before March 30th we will be pleased to send you an RCGS toque. Please support the work of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society today.

In 2020 we proved that proved that the Society can be innovative and flexible, meeting the evolving needs of Canadians as they face an uncertain future.

In 2021 we are committed to continuing our important work, helping Canada chart a successful future by fostering a greater understanding of the country’s geography – the diverse and physical landscapes – as well as the changes impacting its people and environment.

We hope that you are inspired by the opportunity to help contribute to a year of new shared successes. Please donate now.

With thanks,
