I can still remember the thrill - and nerves - I felt the day I submitted my first photograph to Canadian Geographic's photo club. Now 17,000 members strong, it was much smaller back in 2007 when I thought it was time to share my work with a community of nature photographers.

Taking that leap meant opening myself up to the idea that my work could reach beyond my own lens and connect with people across Canada, perhaps even the world.

I submitted a photo to Can Geo of two polar bears sparring in Churchill, Manitoba. That image was picked up by the team at Canadian Geographic as the "photo of the week". Being published by Canadian Geographic wasn't just a goal; it was a dream that represented everything I aspired in my work.

Canadian Geographic's Photo Club helped propel my career in wildlife photography

From polar bears and walrus to bowhead and beluga whales, I have been completely captivated by the magic of the Arctic and its wildlife. After many expeditions, publications and exhibitions, I am grateful for the support I received earlier in my career from the team at Canadian Geographic.

This winter, we are asking our community to support Canadian Geographic's Photo Club and help us tell Canada's story. Your donation today will preserve the best in Canadian visual storytelling, focused on protecting the environment and biodiversity and sharing stories from the land.

Help us tell Canada's story as we reach towards our 100th anniversary in 2029-2030, so that Canadian Geographic can continue to be a catalyst for understanding, unity and hope.

With thanks,
