For the past few months, the media have featured countless stories about Americans reluctant to get the Covid-19 vaccine, with cable news networks often pointing fingers at some of their competitors for contributing to the problem.
MSNBC's Joshua Johnson took a different approach Sunday evening, bringing University of Michigan public health professor Ken Resnicow on his program to discuss strategies that could actually be successful in persuading the unvaccinated to roll up their sleeves.
"Scolding people with facts and figures and data” was not working to change people’s minds, said Resnicow. A better approach was "motivational interviewing," which avoids "unsolicited advice" in favor of “reflective listening."
Johnson, along with Resnicow, did an excellent job focusing their discussion on tactics that have a much greater chance of success than snarky hashtags or lectures from talking heads.

More than two months after she withdrew from the French Open citing mental health concerns, podcaster Tim Dillon is ranting against superstar tennis player Naomi Osaka for wanting to avoid media attention.
“That b*tch Naomi Osaka who didn’t wanna do the interviews, shut the f*ck up,” Dillon suggested. “Do the f*cking interviews you dumb b*tch.” Dillon continued his classless tirade as his producer cackled in the background.
Osaka had the honor of lighting the torch to open the Tokyo Olympics, coming into the games as the second-ranked women's tennis player in the world. She's won four Grand Slam singles titles and is the current U.S Open and Australian Open reigning champion.
As Teddy Roosevelt famously said, "it is not the critic who counts," and Dillon's never actually been "in the arena."
