Dear Friend, Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina! Helping Students RECOVER Students across the nation are experiencing learning loss due to unnecessary and prolonged school closures. Over 93% of the “American Rescue Plan” funds remain unused while students continue to struggle. I believe education is key to opportunity; that is why I introduced the RECOVER Act. My bill will redirect those funds to parents to allow them to make the best decision for their children’s education. Read more about my RECOVER Act here – and click here for my op-ed in the Wall Street Journal. Standing up for Freedom The United States’ commitment to the Taiwan Relations Act is more important now than ever, as the Chinese Communist Party ramps up threats against the people of Taiwan. We must show resolve in the face of aggressors around the world. That’s why 25 of my Senate colleagues and I issued a statement of support for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s stop in Taiwan this week. Spilling the #SCSweetTea on a “Week of Hope” This week, I’m spilling the Sweet Tea on an organization called Group Cares. This group is made up of 2,700 students volunteering their time to serve their communities. In North Charleston, a group of students recently spent a week cleaning up various locations around the city as a way to give back to their community. If these students are any indication of the future, America is going to be in good hands! Today’s investments in your communities today will impact generations to come! Read more about the Week of Hope here! Intern with my Office! My DC, Greenville, Columbia, and Charleston offices are looking for graduate and undergraduate students to interns for this upcoming fall session.
