Sunday, September 27, 2020 |
It sure was nice to almost make it through a Sunday without any truly significant injuries, but this being 2020, we couldn't quite do it. Chris Carson was forced to leave Seattle's Week 3 thriller against the Cowboys late in the game with what could be a pretty serious injury, unfortunately. That could push Carlos Hyde and Travis Homer into Fantasy relevance, so we'll definitely need to keep a close eye on that over the next two days before waivers run. |
That wasn't the only serious injury in Week 3 — Tarik Cohen apparently tore his ACL — but compared to last week, Sunday was a quiet day. Diontae Johnson and Russell Gage's breakout seasons were derailed for at least one week as both left with concussions, while Dallas Goedert suffered an ankle injury that could cost him a few weeks, so you might have some holes to fill ahead of Week 4, to be sure. But for most Fantasy players it won't be an emergency situation in multiple spots, and that's a nice change of pace. |
We'll have a full recap of everything you need to know from Sunday's games Monday morning, along with Heath Cummings' breakdown of the top storylines from around the NFL, but for now, here's your first look at who the top early waiver-wire targets for Week 4 will be, starting with breakout performances from some early-round rookie wide receivers: |

Week 4 Early Waiver Wire Targets |
|
This week, it's all about the rookie wide receivers. This year's class got off to something of a slow start with just three players topping 100 receiving yards through the first two weeks of the season and only CeeDee Lamb really looking like a starting-caliber Fantasy option. That may have changed in Week 3 in a big way, as Justin Jefferson, Brandon Aiyuk, and Tee Higgins all flashed their upside. |
Jefferson was the most impressive of the three, as he truly dominated for the Vikings, catching seven of nine targets for 175 yards, all of which led the Vikings. He showed superstar potential in college, and Sunday was the first time we saw it in the NFL, as he won all over the field, most notably on a long catch where he beat the primary defender on the catch and then left another behind for the touchdown. |
|
Similarly, Aiyuk showed us what he was capable of Sunday. He's not quite the same type of player as Jefferson, but his multi-faceted skill set is a perfect fit for the 49ers offense. He led the team with five catches for 70 yards, but it was the 31 yards on three carries with a touchdown on the ground that really show what makes him special. Aiyuk is a dynamic play maker with the ball in his hands, and Kyle Shanahan is the perfect coach to get the most out of a guy like that. |
Add in Higgins' two-touchdown game, and there was a lot of upside on display from these three. Aiyuk and Jefferson are the top two waiver wire targets for me this week, and Higgins is worth adding if you've got the space on your bench — though I would prioritize a few of the running backs we're looking at over him, including Hyde and Homer if Carson's injury proves serious. |
