Here's what happened at the mall last night

BY DEANNA B. NARVESON | Staff writer

This is my last newsletter filling in for Adam Daigle this week, and while this isn't necessarily typical economic or business news, I wanted to highlight the events that went down at the Acadiana Mall Thursday evening.

Police arrested a former security guard at Acadiana Mall in Lafayette Thursday night for terrorizing, after an incident that put stores on lockdown with employees and shoppers inside, reports The Acadiana Advocate's Claire Taylor.

Gregory Stevens, 38, of Lafayette, was arrested at a residence in the 100 block of Pleasant View Drive in Lafayette, Sgt. Matthew Benoit, public information officer with Lafayette police, said in a news release.

Lafayette Police initially responded to a report around 5:38 p.m. of an individual inside Acadiana Mall who had a firearm, Benoit said. Dozens of law enforcement officers descended on the mall.

Despite claims of shots fired that were posted on social media, some by people inside the mall at the time, police said no shots were fired and no one was injured. You can read the full rundown of last nights events here.

Have a safe and happy weekend.
