Good morning Valued Subscriber,
The territory election is a fortnight away - in case you couldn't tell by the increased number of political faces you're seeing around town, walking neighbourhood streets and across various forms of media. Yesterday, the Canberra Liberals officially kicked off their 2024 campaign, and it wasn't long until the back and forth between Opposition Leader Elizabeth Lee and ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr began. Jasper Lindell reports today about the battle of the $1 billion blackhole and the "magic pudding economics" Mr Barr says is behind the Libs' election promises. But Ms Lee said territory Treasurer Mr Barr should be embarrassed throwing the "absurd" figures out in public. But what do Canberrans actually want to hear from their political representatives? Brittney Levinson hit the streets of the capital to find out what really matters to ACT residents. Politics aside, sports fans everywhere know it's an important day for the NRL. David Polkinghorne has the grand final story of an ex-Raider whose sense that he "wasn't really wanted" prompted a departure that has led him to the chance to be part of a Penrith Panthers four-peat. We've got a partly cloudy day ahead of us with a slight chance of a shower, heading to a forecast top of 20 degrees. Victoria Lee, senior producer |
