KAUA’I, HAWAII: Sheraton Kaua’i Coconut Beach Resort debuted Halau Ho’okipa, an open-air event pavilion, on the eastern most point on the Garden Island earlier this month. The 4,500-square-foot pavilion is now the largest beachfront open-air event space on Kaua'i. It fronts the ancient surfing grounds of the Royal Coconut Coast, boasts sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and can accommodate up to 180 guests. The Sheraton property designed the Halau Ho’okipa for hotel guests to experience Hawaiian culture and is offering hula classes, luau performances and more.
MIAMI/SOUTH FLA.:The historic Sunset Lounge, the premier African-American entertainment venue of the South during the 1940s and 1950s, is being brought back to life through a $12.5 million renovation led and supported by the CRA/City of West Palm Beach. The CRA aims to complete the historic restoration of Sunset Lounge by the winter of 2022. It will feature a 150-seat bar, restaurant/supper club, state-of-the-art entertainment venue and a rooftop bar and patio, among other amenities. The CRA tapped award-winning and West Palm Beach-based design firm V Starr—led by famed tennis player, principal and CEO Venus Williams—to oversee its design.
Entreprenista Media, a networking platform for female leaders and the host of The Entreprenista Podcast, is throwing an immersive brunch experience on May 14. Taking place at Wynwood's newest nightlife experience, The MOON Miami, the event will feature a live musical performance by Lea Rose and panel discussions with female founders and CEOs. There will also be a live shopping experience and plenty of networking opportunities. To attend the Entreprenista Immersive Brunch Experience, aspiring guests can register to be a member of the Entreprenista League to receive an invitation.
MONTEREY, CALIF.: In honor of Earth Day, the Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau wants to raise awareness about its efforts in its Sustainable Meetings Guide. The guide encourages meeting and event planners to book events in one of the city’s green hotels and facilities—from the LEED Platinum-certified Monterey Conference Center to the Portola Hotel & Spa and Pebble Beach Resort, which has implemented an Energy Efficiency Program. To make an even greater impact, Monterey residents are encouraged to participate in one of the more than 200 beach cleanups hosted by nonprofit organization Save Our Shores, contribute to a habitat restoration project through the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve or rent an e-bike from Adventures By The Sea.
SEATTLE:Visit Seattle announced that Tammy Blount-Canavan will serve as the company's president and CEO, effective May 9, making Blount-Canavan Visit Seattle's first female CEO. She is replacing Visit Seattle veteran Tom Norwalk, who retired earlier this spring. Blount-Canavan, from Vancouver, Canada, previously served as president and CEO of the the Tacoma Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau before leaving to serve as the president and CEO of the Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau in California.
