GLOBAL: Virgin Hotels Collection announced the formation of its global sales team with the goal of continuing its commitment to its trade partners and increasing its worldwide footprint. Bringing together executives from both Virgin Hotels and Virgin Limited Edition, the team is composed of Vanessa Rothery, Shannon Byrne, Abigail Trangmar, Julia Grishkova, and Peter D'Elia, and is led by vice president of global sales Maya Latinovic.
BOSTON: Meet Boston, formerly the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau, shifted its membership model to a partnership model this past spring, and 75 partners have joined since. The six-pillar model was created to expand Meet Boston’s partnership network to businesses and attractions of all sizes. Its long-standing programs have been supplemented with new initiatives like quarterly educational programming and workshops that are centered on key industry needs and wants.
CHICAGO: Oak View Group named Samuel R. Thomas Jr. as senior vice president and general manager of the McCormick Place campus. With over three decades of experience in the hospitality industry, Thomas will also oversee operations and services for the McCormick Place Convention Center. The industry veteran will relocate to Chicago from Washington, D.C., at the start of September to begin his new role.
LAS VEGAS: Chef and restaurateur Michael Mina plans to introduce Orla this winter in Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Orla, a restaurant set to blend both the flavors of the Mediterranean and Greece with those of the Middle East, means “golden princess” in Greek, suiting its plan to transport guests into a realm of ancient traditions.
LOS ANGELES: The first U.S. edition of The Business Show will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center Sept. 20-21. With over 300 exhibitors, 150 seminars, live panel debates, and interactive master classes, the show is designed to help entrepreneurs prepare themselves with the tools and knowledge to start their businesses. Keynote speakers will include representatives from major companies like Google and Microsoft.
