Where to find cheap gas. And the Parasol's block party is back

By Bob Warren

Russian oil ban: Word out of Washington this morning is that President Joe Biden will ban Russian oil imports, adding that to the sanctions the U.S. imposed following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Biden could announce the move later today.

We asked the experts what it will mean for Louisiana. Meanwhile, as oil prices have skyrocketed, so have gasoline prices. Here's where you could find the cheapest prices this morning.

Shamrockin’: Sadly, some St. Patrick’s Day parties will be on hold again this year. But our food and drink guy Ian McNulty reports today that Parasol’s and Tracey’s will once again host block parties to celebrate everything green, restoring one of the city’s signature St. Patrick’s Day traditions.

Saints beat: The NFL’s offseason can hardly be called an “off” season. Free agency. The upcoming draft. Salary cap gymnastics. Saints beat guy Luke Johnson fills us in on the latest with our favorite team.

Mystic City panorama: For a brief time more than a century ago, the Hibernia Building was New Orleans' tallest building, towering a full 12 stories and nearly 200 feet above Carondelet Street. Fascinating, no? But perhaps more interesting, Mike Scott writes today, was the impromptu rooftop wedding the building hosted in 1904. The Daily Picayune even covered it, breathlessly reporting on the “magnificent panorama of the Mystic City, which lay before (the happy couple's) eyes for miles on every side.”
