Note from the ACDIS Editor | Denials management life rafts for murky waters | By Linnea Archibald More than half of all respondents to the 2019 CDI Week Industry Survey (56.51%) say they’re currently involved in denials management at their organization. What’s more, more than half of those involved (65.97%) say they’re directly involved through appeal writing, reviewing specific diagnoses for denial prevention, or sending post-discharge queries and/or conducting mortality reviews for denial defense. When ACDIS conducted a poll on the same topic in July 2017, only 28% of respondents said they were directly a part of denials management. While CDI professionals’ involvement in the denials and appeals process can be a boon to their organization, taking that first step can be daunting and can feel suspiciously like scope creep. Since it’s clear that CDI involvement is increasing, however, I wanted to spend some time this week pointing those venturing into murky waters toward life rafts available on the ACDIS website. |
