25 January 2021 Mayor's MessageWelcome to the January 2021 edition of Wanneroo Link. Last week, I was honoured to welcome the WA Governor Kim Beazley to our City’s top attractions – from the Wanneroo Botanic Gardens and Yanchep National Park, to the Yanchep Lavender Farm in Carabooda (pictured). The Governor’s visit was a fabulous opportunity to promote our City as a tourism destination, and highlighted how accessible Wanneroo is to people living in the metropolitan area, with a diverse range of activities for day trips. I encourage all Western Australians to visit and discover Wanneroo, by visiting discoverwanneroo.com.au. More informationTime to declutter the cupboard and garage? From tyres and technology to cardboard and clothes, the City of Wanneroo's 2021 Community Waste Drop-Off Weekend will once again offer residents the chance to get rid of bulky and unused items from around the home. Held over the weekend of 6-7 February at the Ashby Operations Centre (1204 Wanneroo Road, Ashby), this is your chance to declutter the home and wardrobe. More informationFlatten and fold to save on spaceDon’t let your recyclables get boxed in – always flatten your cardboard! If your recycling bin wasn't collected on its scheduled day, it might be because recyclables were packed in too tight. We know people love recycling. But overfilling your recycling bin can make it harder for our waste crews to empty it, and even cause a jam! Don't forget to flatten and fold cardboard before sliding it vertically into your recycling bin. Sorting heavy items - like jars or glass bottles - to the bottom of the bin can also prevent blockages. An overfull recycling bin that won't empty easily runs the risk of being missed or skipped by our waste collection crews. There are big changes on the way for the City of Wanneroo’s waste collection service, as part of our commitment to reducing the amount of waste we send to landfill. A new three bin system will be rolling out between May and August 2021. Keep your eyes peeled for more information on how the rollout will work in the coming weeks.
