Material so tough it’s nearly uncuttable

Superhero movies have long touted material that is impervious to damage. It's typically used to stop bullets or withstand the strike of a blade. It turns out this is no longer science fiction as scientists recently developed a material that is so strong even a diamond-lined cutting instrument had a hard time getting through it.

Runaway reptile: The world’s slowest escapee

It kinda sounds like a joke: A 200-pound tortoise escapes from enclosure and leads police and its owner on a multi-day chase. But this actually happened! After escaping his home through a crack in a fence, Sparkplug the tortoise managed to cross two Alabama counties on his journey. Despite his slow speed, Sparkplug made great progress by crawling at a steady pace for several hours.

But that wasn’t enough to keep him hidden. Local farmers eventually caught the tortoise after following a long, dragging trail that plowed through their soybean fields. Sure enough, there was Sparkplug at the end — savoring his brief taste of freedom. It’s just one more adventure in Sparkplug’s long life. He’s 60-years-old!
