The highest performers are those who can concentrate on a few key priorities and delegate or postpone the rest, says Morten Hansen, a professor at the University of California at Berkeley who conducted a study on performance. "The main finding, and it's actually a huge surprise to me, is that the best performers, they do less," he says.
