Opening of "Pressed: Images from the Jewish Daily Forward" a success!
Thank you to those who attended! Dear Friend, Earlier this week, hundreds of people filled the historic Museum at Eldridge Street to get a first look at “Pressed: Images from the Jewish Daily Forward,” a new exhibition featuring The Forward’s vintage photographic press plates, which were used to print images in the storied newspaper back in the day. Thank you to those who attended! The museum walls were adorned with remarkable images, moments and stories from the past, a time when The Forward was read only in Yiddish. Exhibition curator Nancy Johnson and Forward archivist Chana Pollack sifted through the vast archival collection to pull together the fascinating display. |

“I think we all found, as I’m confident you will, too, that [the images] are treasures of the past that, while static and pretty much one dimensional, seem to be animated as if containing deep, long-held secrets of life long ago and far away and of this present moment right now,” Chana expressed to the audience. We hope to produce more such events, securing our cultural legacy and creating a deeper understanding of our history. You can help — with your donation of $180 or more, you’ll receive a set of 4 exclusive vintage prints on notecards*, hand-selected by Chana from our treasured collection. The notecards are printed at Bowne & Co., using the same historic presses used to print plates. Don’t miss the opportunity to forever own a piece of history. |
