George Floyd was laid to rest as nationwide protests continued

About 500 guests, including civil rights leaders, celebrities, and politicians, attended the funeral of Floyd, who was laid to rest in his hometown of Houston on Tuesday at the Fountain of Praise church.

Dozens of Floyd's family members, dressed in white, attended the service, with some delivering powerful speeches, including his brother, who thanked God "for giving me my own personal Superman."

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, who announced he will sign an executive order implementing police reforms, including banning the use of chokeholds and strangleholds, welcomed June 9 as "George Perry Floyd Jr. Day" in Houston.

CrossFit’s CEO has stepped down after he was captured on audio telling staff: “We’re not mourning for George Floyd.”

The company released a statement from Greg Glassman saying that he had "decided to retire" and was stepping down as CEO after BuzzFeed News obtained the audio of the Zoom call Glassman had with gym owners where he made other egregious statements, such as sharing conspiracy theories about the coronavirus.

His “retirement” comes after he posted a controversial tweet on Saturday about George Floyd and racism that sparked a massive backlash against the company. His is the latest in a string of leadership resignations at high-profile companies.

Young Black protesters know exactly what they want: radical anti-racism

Looking at their parents’ struggles and enraged by George Floyd’s death, a younger generation is fired up for change. “My generation is definitely more aggressive” about these issues, 16-year-old Brianna Phillips said. “I’m going to fight this, not just for me, but also for my parents. They have gone through this for years and things should be better now.”

A PLANNED QUIET ELOPEMENT GOES VIRAL

A Philadelphia couple married in the middle of a massive protest feel it was meant to be

What was supposed to be Kerry Anne and Michael Gordon's first look before their wedding ceremony ended up becoming a powerful symbol of Black love and community support that has resonated around the world.

The couple were originally supposed to be married in New Jersey in May before the coronavirus pandemic delayed their plans. After rescheduling their wedding a few times, the couple chose a June 6 elopement at the Logan Hotel but learned the venue is directly in the route of scheduled protests.

"As I was driving there they started blocking off the highway, and I was anxious I wasn’t even going to get to marry her," the couple's officiant, Rev. Roxanne Birchfield, told BuzzFeed News.

Moments before the ceremony was due to start, protesters showered Kerry Anne and Michael with compliments.

"It was extremely powerful. It's hard to even describe what it was like," Gordon told BuzzFeed News. "I'm not sure if people were thinking about love or about protesting, or some combination of that. Some people were saying this is an example of Black love, an example of Black Lives Matter, and I felt it all."
