This work includes the development of energy efficiency and clean energy projects as the company prepares for this summer’s peak electricity demands and weather events.
The project, known as the Strategic Underground Program, launched in 2014 to reduce storm-related power outages and shorten restoration times.
Utility companies need backup or standby power sources to meet needs during peak demand, electricity gaps, off-grid power needs, and outages.  
CAISO anticipates the state will have an increase in projected capacity margins that exceed demand and reserve requirements this summer.
