Transmission bottlenecks have stymied renewable energy development in the past few years and the situation is only getting worse. However, yesterday MISO approved the first of four tranches of new transmission projects. The 18 new lines that received the green light should relieve congestion and allow for the interconnection of up to 53 GW of new generation capacity that will be built in MISOs footprint representing its rapidly changing resource mix.
