| Khayla Pointer became the first LSU player with 1,5000 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists in a career Thursday night, but the milestone was overshadowed by the worst loss of Kim Mulkey's tenure thus far. The No. 12 LSU women's basketball team lost 90-76 as Arkansas sank 13 shots from beyond the arc. LSU trailed by double-digits at halftime, and Arkansas stretched its lead past 20 points at one point in the second half. The Tigers need to get back on track after losing two straight. At last, LSU gets to compete in a gymnastics meet that wasn't altered in some way. The Tigers face Georgia on Friday night for their first meet since Jan. 7, the season opener against Centenary. The last two were postponed because of various COVID-19 issues, so maybe we ought to cross our fingers until the meet starts. When LSU does take the floor, there will be plenty of connections to the competition. Senior Sami Durante's mother once coached at Georgia, Elena Arena' mother was a two-time NCAA all-around champion for the Bulldogs and head coach Jay Clark got his start there. Because of the postponements, the SEC announced LSU will participate in a tri-meet with Arkansas and Missouri on Feb. 20 in Columbia. The plan cost LSU a home meet but made up the postponements. Elsewhere, Will Wade recognized the importance of LSU men's basketball's comeback Wednesday over Texas A&M, saying without the win, "The season could have taken on a much different complexion." That game left an impression on columnist Scott Rabalais, too. He wrote Thursday about how pivotal it was for LSU to avoid losing four straight. That kind of win, he thinks, puts the Tigers back on track, especially if they can get healthy again. That's all for now.
