Holding the line at LSU

Fact: LSU's defense doesn't look like it's that great.

Fact: LSU's offense is going to have to carry the load.

Fact: LSU's offensive line is going to have to be a strength of this team if the offense is to get anywhere.

Three weeks into the season, Brian Kelly's staff is still tinkering with the right side of the O-line, getting freshman Lance Heard some critical playing time at right tackle while shifting Emery Jones inside to right guard.

That's not ideal, but if LSU hits on the right combination, it could pick the lock to a great season. A big test lies straight ahead when the No. 14-ranked Tigers travel to Mississippi State to take on the Bulldogs at 11 a.m. Saturday (boy, that's early) on ESPN.

One of the new jobs for LSU's new look offensive line: opening holes to John Emery. The Tigers' veteran running back/unicorn is finally slated to play Saturday — we think.

Even in the midst of an important game week, a little LSU baseball news is big news. The reigning College World Series champion Tigers released their 2024 schedule today. Check it out here.

LSU women's basketball All-American Angel Reese and gymnastics All-American Olivia Dunne are two of the biggest stars in the NIL game in college athletics. Sports Illustrated has taken notice with a feature story and cover photo on them that is practically a love letter for LSU athletics.

Finally, the AP picks are in for this weekend, including the upset specials. If you're an LSU fan, you might be upset.

No need for your LSU sports-loving friends to be upset. Tell them to be smart like you and subscribe to our daily LSU sports newsletter. They'll be forever in your debt and who knows, may put you in their will.

You're welcome.
