Hi Achternaam,

On days when I’m doing a whole bunch of canning or other tasks and don’t feel like cooking anything, one of my favorite ways to make supper is to use my Crockpot.

One of the great things about having a pantry filled with home canned foods is that you can easily prepare home cooked meals by just opening a few jars of ingredients. Canning meat especially makes this easy.(I have a good recipe example below.)

But first, I wanted to let you know that Fillmore Container (a SimplyCanning sponsor) has a full stock on their Economy Pint Jars, which are great for BBQ sauces, pickled vegetables, jams and jellies, candles, and other crafts. (These aren't approved for pressure canning, but they can be used for water bath canning!) If you're running short on jars, check them out here.

On to this week's recipes/articles...

Crockpot Chili Recipe - This hearty chili recipe uses home canned meat, tomatoes, and beans (though you could use store-bought cans of those ingredients if you don't have homemade on hand).

Pickle Recipes - Pickling, simply put, is the preserving of food (actually many different foods) in an acid, often vinegar. The acidic environment prevents bacterial growth and thus makes the food safe to eat. Spices and/or sweeteners are added for flavor. It's a lot more than just cucumber pickles though!
