Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

On Sunday, we received the devastating news that Hersh Goldberg-Polin, an American citizen being held hostage by Hamas, and was killed by these brutal terrorists. My heart breaks for Hersh and his family, who never gave up hope and worked tirelessly to bring him home safely. May God bless their family and his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved Hersh.

This should be yet another reminder to the entire world of the extraordinary evil Hamas and Iran’s other proxies commit on a routine basis.

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.’ For the sake of my brothers and friends, I will say, "Peace be within you." ~ Psalm 122

Sharing the #SCSweet Tea

September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month, so I’m kicking it off by spilling the #SCSweetTea on Dreylan Holmes. Dreylan is a freshman at Ridgeview High School who has battled sickle cell disease his whole life. With the love and support of his mother, a fantastic care team at MUSC, and his own will and determination, Dreylan is overcoming the odds and stepping up to advocate on behalf of other sickle cell disease patients. Last Sunday, with many other advocates on hand, Dreylan threw out the first pitch at the Charleston RiverDogs game. Keep up the good fight, Dreylan!
