Hospitality employees to be trained to spot human trafficking

Members of the S.C. Restaurant and Lodging Association and their employees will receive training on how to spot human trafficking and how to address it. The association will work with the state attorney general’s office.

Pastides elected to AMA board of trustees

Former University of South Carolina president Harris Pastides will begin his term as the public member on the American Medical Association board of trustees in 2020. The AMA added a public member to its board of trustees in 2002, and Pastides is the fifth person to hold that position.

Unemployment rate falls to 2.6% in October

While the statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell, each S.C. county saw a slight increase from September numbers. The number of estimated South Carolinians working increased by more than 7,100 people in the month.

Solar energy center open in Aiken County

The 560-acre Shaw Creek Solar Energy Center, owned by NextEra Energy, has the capacity to generate 74.9 megawatts of electricity and nearly $9 million in tax revenue for Aiken County. The center is about 15 miles northwest of Aiken and took 10 months to build.

The COMET responds to Penny Tax program audit

The Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority said that most of the Richland County Transportation Penny Program expenditures questioned in an audit stemmed from a 2015 contract with Transdev Transit Services Inc.
