What's making news in New Orleans?
By Chad Calder | Staff writer A LOOMING CRISIS? Louisiana is now undeniably into its fourth surge, with 6,225 confirmed COVID-19 cases reported over the weekend, one of the largest increases in case counts since the pandemic began. Health reporter Emily Woodruff has the latest from local hospitals, where weary doctors and nurses are scrambling to prepare for a wave of preventable illness and death. Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins revealed he and his wife and son have contracted the respiratory disease, though he is among three members of the state's congressional delegation who will not say whether they have been vaccinated. CHURCH SCANDAL: A lawsuit filed against Metairie Deacon V.M. Wheeler accusing him of sexual molestation also claims the cleric's associates tried to keep his alleged victim from going public and even offered to pay him $400,000 if he would stop cooperating with criminal investigators. HAIL CAESARS: The $138 million deal between the New Orleans Saints and Caesars Entertainment Inc. means a new name will adorn the city's beloved Superdome, but it has also sparked hopes that the partnership will help lure more major events. All this and much more in today’s Front Page. Thanks for starting your day with us. CC |
