House Republicans' efforts to avoid a government shutdown appeared to be gathering momentum Thursday, but Democrats in the Senate are already preparing to kill the bill. Democrats argue that the month-long spending bill proposed by the House fails to protect immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children and doesn't address a broad array of other domestic spending priorities.
