Anna Rozen admits to being slightly daunted when one of her first commissions as a solo architect was to design a large contemporary home for a client who, despite having no previous hands-on building experience, wanted to act as owner-builder. “The prospect of ‘what could go wrong’ was incredibly real, but I was very happily surprised,” says Anna, who fronts A For Architecture. “He’d worked with architects on other homes and his strong design focus – as well as background in the corporate world – meant that his scheduling and cost-control were meticulous.” This precision planning started even before the land was found. “The owners contacted me to discuss designing their new home and, once they found a suitable property for auction, I undertook a feasibility study to see what could be achieved.” |
