White on white on white is how interior designer Gemma Gillett describes the renovation inspiration images client Bianca Orr shared with her in 2020, but three years on, and Bianca's home is anything but. Packed with personality and built-in custom cabinetry, the overall effect of Gemma's design is at once tailored, functional and fun. While the colour-blocked bedrooms have an immediately cocooning effect, the mood shifts as you move towards the rear extension, where a soaring pitched roof and an expanse of glass flood the open kitchen, living and dining zones with light. The finished home is an unapologetic kaleidoscope of colours, eras and styles. “We love the whole house,” says Bianca. “There are so many favourite spaces and details. I guess the biggest lesson for me here was to be brave with decision-making. I think I would go even wilder with the next house. I love the idea of this being our forever home, but I would also love to work on another project with Gemma!” |
