View in browser JULY 17, 2019 The House voted on Wednesday to table a resolution to impeach President Trump over racist comments he made about four Democratic congresswomen of color, effectively killing the measure.
Read more from Alex Moe and Jane C. Timm on NBCNews.com. After the impeachment resolution, the House overwhelmingly voted to hold AG William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in criminal contempt of Congress for withholding information about the administration's failed bid to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census.
Barr and Ross sent a joint letter to Speaker Pelosi calling it "unfortunate" that the House would go ahead with a contempt vote "regarding a citizenship question that, as you know, will not be asked on the 2020 Census questionnaire."

Opinion OPINION. 'Go back' is how racists try to deny my American heritage. But this is my country and I'm not leaving. Like so many marginalized people in America, when we speak our mind in the political sphere, when we challenge the normalcy of the white status quo, we are attacked as less-than-fully American. Trump’s notion that anyone who challenges the broken status quo here should instead be quiet and leave is perhaps the most anti-American sentiment ever expressed by a sitting president. by Kurt Bardella, NBC News THINK contributor.
OPINION. Why Afghanistan peace talks between the Taliban and U.S. have promise — but more potential pitfalls. The Afghan forces serve and fight bravely, and lose some 5,000 to 10,000 personnel a year. But they do not appear closer to being able to protect their nation on their own, due to weak institutions, high attrition rates and pervasive corruption in much of the country. by Michael O’Hanlon, senior fellow and director of research in the Foreign Policy program at the Brookings Institution
