Where Ancient Faiths Meet Modern Lives
|
Whether we realize it or not, humans are constantly transforming spiritual practices to fit the times, and our modern age is no different. “The desire to be connected to worship, to feel purpose and feel a calling is as fundamental throughout humanity as a desire for friendship, for love, for food, and for shelter,” says imam and Muslim leader Haroon Moghul. He joins Duke Divinity School professor Kate Bowler and rabbi and Jewish leader Shira Stutman for a conversation moderated by Simran Jeet Singh, director of the Aspen Institute’s Religion and Society program. Together, they
explore how religious history permeates our modern lives even where we don’t notice, and speak about the spiritual gaps religion fills for people and society.

Time to Redesign Our Political System?
|
“Over the last several decades, what was a vibrant, multi-dimensional, really multi-party system within our two-party system has collapsed, flattened,” says Lee Drutman, a senior fellow at New America. “It's turned everything into us versus them, either/or.” The country we live in today is much different than the one that existed when our democratic republic was designed. How did we get to this fraught moment? In a conversation moderated by National Constitution Center CEO Jeffrey Rosen, Drutman talks with Brandice Canes-Wrone, political science professor at Stanford, and Lee
Epstein, law professor at USC, about what reforms might be needed to fix what ails our democracy.

hydrogen, investing in carbon removal programs, and coordinating public and private efforts.
