Payment snafu hits 500K mortgage borrowers

ACI, a payment processing company, inadvertently submitted $2.3 billion in electronic mortgage payments from nearly 500,000 homeowners' accounts during a test of its electronic payments platform. The test used real data from mortgage servicer Mr. Cooper instead of dummy data, resulting in real names, bank account numbers and more being sent through the ACH payment network.
