Also, Les Miles' lawyer speaks out about sexual harassment allegations
with Matthew Albright | Assistant metro editorBaton Rouge, like much of the rest of the country, has a problem in distributing coronavirus vaccines: Low-income and majority-Black areas aren't getting as much access to the life-saving shots as other places. Part of the reason is that these areas don't have nearly as many pharmacies and doctors' offices, which is where the vaccines are usually given out. In Baton Rouge, churches are stepping up to fill the gap. We went inside a mass vaccination event held Saturday at Gloryland Baptist Church to see how health officials are trying to make sure every community is able to get vaccinated. For the past year, the coronavirus has disrupted the faith lives of Baton Rouge residents. When Gov. John Bel Edwards moved Louisiana into Phase 3 last week, he lifted capacity limits on houses of worship. The Bishop of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, however, says the area's Catholic churches are going to keep their current safeguards in place, including spacing out in every other pew. Read this story to see his reasoning and how he's hopeful things could return to normal. Allegations that Les Miles sexually harassed LSU students when he was the football coach are a key piece of the scandal that has unfolded at the university in recent weeks. After new revelations on Friday, the University of Kansas put Miles on leave from his current job coaching there. On Saturday, Miles' lawyer fired back. He claims Kansas knew about all the allegations against Miles previously, and said it hasn't been proven that Miles committed a fireable offense. Thanks for reading, and have a great Sunday! |
