Editor's Notes

We've written these words a few times lately: Work-from-home burnout is real. With the pandemic-prompted shift to remote work continuing on into the summer at many companies, including Technically Media, the lines between professional and home stresses are even more easily blurred now, making it hard to escape either.

That's why the newsroom will be following a new policy called August Fridays, which simply means we're not shipping newsletters (like this one) on Fridays in August. We'll still publish breaking news, but mostly our team will be using the time to catch up on other work or else taking the day off. We're not alone in using less of our PTO than usual, and frankly, many of us need the break.

I'll report back on how this pilot went at the end of the month — which also happens to be Workplace Culture Month, so of course I'm thinking about how our internal culture reflects wider trends. Is your workplace doing anything to encourage time off, or making space in other ways to acknowledge the effects of the pandemic on employees' mental health? Drop me a note at the address below, and otherwise, see ya Monday.
