How Does Trauma Live in the Body?
A traumatic event can literally change the way our brain functions and have unexpected physical manifestations. Psychiatrist Bessel van der Kolk has been researching trauma as a clinician for about four decades and in 2014 published the bestselling book The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Treatment of Trauma. He’s been a leader in exploring treatments that bring people back into their body and help them heal after trauma, including yoga, Qigong, and neurofeedback. The executive director of Aspen Public Radio, Breeze Richardson, interviews van der Kolk at an event from Aspen Words’ 2023 Winter Words season.
