John Dickerson
CBS News’ John Dickerson spoke with Dr. Anthony Fauci on Face the Nation Sunday and has been getting bipartisan praise for how he conducted the interview.
With a troubling number of Americans still vaccine-hesitant, Dickerson asked Fauci what the reasons behind that might be. Fauci lamented the ideological divide on the topic, and expressed dismay at those who were rallying people against getting vaccinated.
Dickerson then raised a very thoughtful point about how it wasn't just the messaging about vaccines that was important, but also how those messages were delivered.
"You say the facts are hitting people between the eyes," he said. "Is it possible that people are a little scared, a little nervous, and the more facts they hear, they don’t hear evidence, what they hear is ‘you’re a dummy for not getting this.’ And that, essentially, people feel insulted when the evidence is presented as if it should be clearly obvious to any normal person and that all that does is put them back in their corner."

| Truth, toothbrushes, and Trump at CPAC The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) was in Dallas, Texas this weekend and did not fail to produce some eyebrow-raising headlines. Here's a sample platter:
The conference kicked off on Friday and CPAC chairman Matt Schlapp had a fiery exchange with CNN's Chris Cuomo. "I’m not welcome at CNN," Schlapp claimed at one point, drawing the retort from Cuomo, "You’re on CNN right now, brother!"
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R-TX) told the CPAC crowd that he won't let Texas turn blue, because "if we fall, America falls."
The crowd cheered a speaker who mentioned that President Joe Biden's administration was falling short of its goal for Covid-19 vaccinations. Dr. Anthony Fauci called that "horrifying" to see in an interview with Jake Tapper on CNN's State of the Union. Brian Stelter joined that criticism, calling the "automatic contrarianism" on the right regarding the pandemic something that had "life and death consequences."
CNN's Jim Acosta mocked former President Donald Trump ahead of his speech on the last day of the conference, saying he should "take [his] fake White House seal and go play President somewhere else."
White nationalist Nick Fuentes was kicked out of the conference -- and yes, there's video.
Trump's speech Sunday generated a lot of buzz on social media, even though he didn't really say much of anything new. In fact, at one point the baseless election fraud claims he keeps recycling prompted Fox News to put a disclaimer up on the screen. Awkward! He did have a "shocking moment of honesty" during his remarks -- and a bizarre rant about Biden's toothbrushes. Yes, really.
CNN's Donie O'Sullivan wandered the halls at CPAC, finding his usual assortment of interesting people with unique opinions to share. He did get pestered for a bit by James O'Keefe.
MSNBC's Joe Scarborough summed up the conference as a "bizarre weekend of lies."

| “¡Libertad!” (“Freedom!“)
Historic protests broke out across Cuba on Sunday, some of the largest that the island nation has seen since the Castro regime seized power in the 1950s.
In the Little Havana neighborhood of Miami, Florida, home to many Cuban-Americans, hundreds marched to show solidarity with the protesters in Cuba, joined by local elected officials.
The crowd continued to grow as the night went on. These protests mark “a historic moment for the people on the islands, because there has not been a protest of this magnitude in decades," remarked Laura Rodriguez, a reporter with WTRF Miami.
"People actually feel that change might come," said Rodriguez. “People here in Miami are pushing out a message, telling the people in Cuba to keep going, keep on fighting the good fight, we stand with you.”
